Cable tray system is commonly used for cable management in commercial and industrial construction.

Cable tray system is especially useful in situations where changes in a wiring system are anticipated since new cables can be installed by laying them in the trunking, instead of pulling them through a pipe.

Cable tray system provide the maximum protection to cables, but requires cutting the trunking or using fittings to enter or exit cables.

Cable tray system is made of galvanized steel, stainless steel, steel finished with powder coating. The material for a given application is chosen based on where it will be used. Galvanized trunking may be made of pre-galvanized steel sheet fabricated into the trunking, or may be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication. When galvanized trunking is cut to length in the field, usually the cut surface will be painted with a zinc-rich compound to protect the metal from corrosion.
